Unable to backup Screenshots and Screen Recordings

Hi there, I am having some trouble where I select the folders to back up photos/videos like Camera roll, Screenshots, Screen recordings, app folders. Everything seems to work (backup to the folders) except for Screenshots and Screen recording folders, they do not show as backed up at the destination despite selecting these for back up. I have double checked to ensure exclude screenshots and screen recordings is not selected.
Can you please look into this for me or advise how I can successfully back up these folders? Thanks for your help

Hi there,

Could you please check Settings → Backup Options → Backup Filters and make sure that both Exclude Screenshots and Exclude Screen Recordings are turned off?

If either of these options is enabled, BackiGo will skip screenshots or screen recordings during the backup even if those folders are selected.

Please let me know if both options are already disabled and the issue still occurs.

Thanks for your response. Yes, I have made sure both those settings are disabled to rule that out. However, the folders still do not show when attempting to back them up.
I am running the latest version of Backigo on the latest version of MacOS Tahoe.
Kind regards

Thanks for the update.

Could you please check whether the actual Screenshots and Screen Recordings files are being backed up successfully?

Also, could you let me know:

Which Backup Organization option you are using — the default Device / Year / Month, or another folder structure?

What is your backup destination (external drive, NAS, cloud storage, etc.)?

Thanks

Thanks for the follow up questions.
1. Screenshots and screen recordings are being backed up to the Camera Roll folder, not the separate folders when I select Camera Roll, Screenshots, Screen recording albums to be backed up. The work around is only selecting screenshots and screen recording albums for backup, not all at once so don’t include the Camera Roll. Is there some de-duplication happening behind the scenes despite the files being in different folders (I.e. Backigo sees a copy on the Camera roll folder is backed up so does not create separate folders for screenshots and screen recordings)? I have tried all the options under Duplicate File Handling but does not work
2. “Store by Album” for Backup Organisation is selected
3. Local hard drive for Backup Destination
Thanks

Thank you for the additional information. I’ll do some testing on my side to investigate this further and keep you updated.

Hi, this is actually the expected behavior.

In Apple Photos, Screenshots and Screen Recordings are Smart Albums. If you haven’t added them to a separate album or created dedicated albums for them, they are still part of the default Camera Roll album.

Therefore, when you select Camera Roll together with Screenshots and Screen Recordings, BackiGo will store these files under the Camera Roll folder instead of creating duplicate folders for the same photos/videos.

If you add Screenshots and Screen Recordings to separate albums (or create dedicated albums), the backup files will be stored under those album folders.

You can also use Restore Photos or go to Gallery → Backup and select Albums to view or restore Screenshots and Screen Recordings as separate albums.

Creating duplicate backup files for Screenshots and Screen Recordings is usually unnecessary, since BackiGo can already identify and restore them through albums. However, may I ask if your expected behavior is to create separate backup folders for Screenshots and Screen Recordings even when they are also included in Camera Roll?

Hi thanks for checking this out.To answer your question about how I handle backups - I keep real photos and videos separate from screenshots and screen recordings. I treat photos and videos are “keepers”, while screenshots are just reference material, and mixing them together clutters up the backup (including chronological timeline views if using other apps to view the backup such as Synology photos, Immich, Photoprism and Google photos).
The workaround for now is running two backup jobs: one for the camera roll with screenshots and screen recordings excluded, and another job that backs up only the screenshots and screen recordings (the smart albums). When those smart albums are backed up on their own, they’re included correctly.
Thanks

This makes sense. I’ll look into improving this logic so that when Camera Roll (or all photos) is selected for backup, Screenshots and Screen Recordings are stored in their respective folders, while the Camera Roll folder contains only the remaining photos and videos.

Hi, I’ve added this improvement in the latest version. When using Album Organization, Screenshots and Screen Recordings are now stored in their respective folders. You can now select Camera Roll for backup, and BackiGo will automatically organize Screenshots and Screen Recordings into their respective folders.
Thanks again for your feedback!
